Itinerary

A detailed day-by-day journey through Morocco's most breathtaking landscapes.

Day 1

Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley

Your student adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. Leave the city behind and travel into the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Along the way, stop at panoramic viewpoints and see traditional Amazigh villages built into the mountains.

Continue towards Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco's most famous fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its narrow pathways and traditional earthen architecture before continuing to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert. The journey then follows the Valley of Roses and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs towards the Dades Valley. Arrive in the afternoon or evening and enjoy dinner with your fellow student travelers before spending the night in a comfortable local hotel or guesthouse.

~360 km Dades Valley Dinner
Day 2

Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Rissani → Merzouga Sahara

After breakfast, continue deeper into southern Morocco. Travel through the Dades Valley towards Todra Gorge, where enormous limestone cliffs rise dramatically above the valley. Enjoy a short walk through the gorge and take time for group photographs.

Continue through the oasis landscapes towards Erfoud, famous for fossils and traditional stone craftsmanship. Pass through Rissani before reaching Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. In the late afternoon, leave the vehicle and climb onto your camels for a trek across the golden Erg Chebbi dunes.

Ride through the desert while watching the sun slowly disappear behind the dunes. After reaching your Sahara camp, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner followed by Berber music, drums and time around the campfire. This is the perfect opportunity for students to relax, meet other travelers and enjoy the incredible night sky.

~300 km Sahara Desert Camp Breakfast & Dinner
Day 3

Merzouga → Sahara Sunrise → Draa Valley → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Wake early to experience one of the highlights of the trip: sunrise over the Sahara Desert. Watch the first light spread across the Erg Chebbi dunes before returning to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and begin the long journey back to Marrakech.

The route crosses the desert landscapes around Rissani and Alnif before continuing towards the beautiful Draa Valley, famous for its extensive palm groves and traditional kasbahs. Continue towards Ouarzazate and then cross the High Atlas Mountains once again.

Because this is a long return journey, expect to spend much of the day on the road, with stops for lunch, photographs and breaks. Arrival in Marrakech is normally in the evening, bringing your 3-day Morocco student desert tour to an end.
